The Aims of the Audit Tool To allow you to reflect on your current curriculum To help you to plan for the new curriculum in the short, medium and long term QCA on the front foot Positive response from all involved Good press Good will “QCA taking the initiative” Some good news stories about QCA

How to use the audit tool The audit tool is in ‘Stages’ It is intended as a guide Each stage will take varying amounts of time Each stage will need to be revisited You are encouraged to work collaboratively with your department and other groups Support materials are on the website and with your RSA QCA on the front foot Positive response from all involved Good press Good will “QCA taking the initiative” Some good news stories about QCA

Stage 1: What are you trying to achieve? Departmental meeting to discuss importance statement of new programme of study for history using Importance Statement document Initial consideration of revised concepts and processes, range and content, curriculum opportunities Consideration of history’s contribution to the whole school curriculum

Stage 2: Audit and Consultation Audit the current curriculum for coverage of the concepts, processes and topics set out in the new programme of study Optional: Through questionnaire and/or discussion ask pupils, staff and parents for their views of the current history curriculum and what they would like to see in the history curriculum (see QCA work on pupil voice)

Stage 3: Understanding the new curriculum Subject Leader and department members to attend INSET and network meetings on new curriculum Use web based materials and relevant publications to further understanding Be clear about the concepts, processes, range and content of the new curriculum

Stage 4: How do you organise your learning? Review of the consultation Subject Leader to collate main findings of the audit Identify current strengths and areas for development in terms of new programme of study Identify where the curriculum needs to be developed to ensure coverage of: concepts processes range and content

Stage 5 Revising the Key Stage 3 Plan The aim of this stage is to use stages 1-4 to devise an overview for KS3 It should aim to: meet the aims of stage 1 meet the needs of the new programme of study (stage 3) meet areas for development identified in stage 4

Stage 5 Revising the Key Stage 3 Plan The department meets to devise a KS3 overview and discuss the following questions: How will you ensure there is progression in the concepts and processes? Which historical content will meet the needs of your pupils? How can you blend outline and depth knowledge to ensure that our pupils develop a strong ‘framework knowledge’ of the past?

Stage 6: How are you going to achieve your aims? Devise a KS3 plan Plan enquiry questions Begin planning schemes of work to support the plan Include review dates to consider: How well are you achieving your aims?
