Overview How do various angles and their timings affect the different styles of dance? Angles vs. Timing Factors that could affect dance: Age Experience Height

Styles of Dance Clogging Ballet Gymnastics Contemporary

Method and Set-Up A 9’8”X9’3” rectangle was marked on the floor by tape for the dancers to dance in. Two video cameras were set up, one to the side and one in front. Times were measured by starting and stopping the videos in Windows Live Movie Maker. Angles were calculated by taking a snapshot of a certain point in the video and transferring the image to ImageJ. The angle was measured and transferred into a Microsoft Excel file.

Examples Jete Arabesque Cartwheel Quad

Results Angles

Results Times

Results Ballet Contemporary Clogging Gymnastics All styles   Ballet Contemporary Clogging Gymnastics All styles Fastest Time Jete: 0.77 sec. 1.08 sec. Spinwheel: 2.03 sec. Running Cartwheel: 0.99 sec. Ballet: Slowest Time Arabesque: 3.08 sec. Fouette: 4.37 sec. Quad: 5.58 sec. Back Bend: 3.59 sec. Clogging: Largest Angle 169.18 degrees Pirouette: 161.98 degrees Brush-Up: 81.75 degrees Running Cartwheel: 104.4 degrees Smallest Angle Pirouette: 51.05 degrees 54.7 degrees MJ: 25.37 degrees 74.44 degrees

Conclusion How do various angles and their timings effect the different styles of dance? As time decreases, the angles increase, therefore, causing a fluctuation in the results. The effect of age, height, and experience does not have an effect on dance. Every person’s body can do different things.
