RAMP up your Counseling Program Meri Kock, Summit High School

What is ramp? ASCA National Model certification Available only to individual schools Data-driven programs that address academic achievement, attendance, or discipline Team approach- all counselors need to be on board

Why ramp? Clarify the needs of your students Focus counseling services Structure programs to achieve specific goals Data and documentation to convey effectiveness Integrate counseling into the functioning of the school Collaboration and communication with stakeholders

Where to start ASCA School counseling program assessment - Can be overwhelming and slightly discouraging, but don’t give up! TNDOE School Report Card - Good source for school data Conversation with administrators - Incorporate their vision into your plan Needs assessment - ASCA Site has samples, or Self-Design

12 Components- 60 Points 1. Vision statement (3 points) Believable and Achievable, 5-15 years away 2. Mission statement (3 points) Align with school, district 3. Program Goals (6 points) Data-based Academic achievement, attendance, behavior “SMART” Goal format 4. NEW: ASCA Mindsets & Behaviors for Student Success (4 points) Which grade level Not all standards every year

12 Components- 60 Points 5. Annual Agreement (5 points) One per counselor Signatures- counselor and administrator 6. Advisory Council (5 points) Minimum two meetings- fall and spring Agenda and Minutes 7. Calendars (5 points) Department, year-long calendar Two calendars for each counselor- fall and spring
