Sustainable Development Center Ghana Our Response To You

Question From you... ... “What are some of the roles that children play at home and in their communities?”

Our Response... In our communities and homes, one of our roles is to help out in our homes. Doing chores, babysitting, or helping make dinner.

Roles... Other than helping out around the house, we have our roles as students. We have to keep up with our work at school and do our daily homework.

Roles... In our community it is also our role to help out not only at home but outside of our home. This includes community service such as recycling with friends.

Question 2 from you... ... “What environmental sustainability projects have you undertaken before and how did this help sustain your environment?”

Our response

Our response... (question 2 continued) Environmental sustainability projects are very beneficial because participation in them, through maintenance, greener approaches, and awareness, allows future generations to experience the beauty of the greenery in our planet. Personally, I help to maintain the present state of the environment by recycling both at home and at school. At school we have a recycling program that I volunteer with another student. Together we gather recyclable products around the school and dispose of them in a large bin. This is beneficial because when a product is recycled it can be reused at a later time, rather than the products damaging the earth at a landfill. Another project that I take part in is planting and sustaining a garden at home and the local community centre. I helped to construct underground sprinklers and continuously looked after the garden to make sure it was well-maintained. This is effective because it keeps the earth healthy by increasing the amount of oxygen in the atmosphere in the hot summer months, which have little precipitation. Furthermore, on a daily basis I help to sustain the environment by biking to school or using public transportation. This promotes sustainability because it reduces the emission of carbon monoxide into the atmosphere. Additionally, my family contributes to environmental sustainability by purchasing appliances that are energy efficient and disposing of batteries into battery boxes available in the community. These two projects are beneficial because they also lead to the reduction of carbon monoxide in the atmosphere, as well as allowing batteries to be reused. Overall, the environmental sustainability projects that I have undertaken help to sustain the environment and have led me to bring awareness to others about the importance of participating in such projects.

Question 3 from you... ... “What advice do you have for children all over the world to get them interested in environmental issues and acts?”

Our response... Our advice is to get friends involved with community projects such as getting friends to recycle and participate in food drives.

Our response.. (continued) Showing pictures of the environmental disasters can influence children to become interested in environment issues and act. Children will see the disaster caused by humans and they will be willing to help out.
