Psychological Research: Popsicle Sticks Difference between longitudinal studies and cross-sectional studies? Correlation vs. Causation Single-Blind vs. Double-Blind Random sample vs. Stratified sample Teacher uses popsicle sticks to pull random student for 1st 2 questions. For second two questions, make sure there is proportional representation of males and females. Tie into Ques#4 re: random vs. stratified samples. Longitudinal = same group over a long period of time; Cross-sectional = random sampling of groups based on age Correlation = relationship between 2 variables/data; Causation = one thing causes another to happen Single-blind = experimenter aware of which patients received treatment; Double-blind = neither experimenter nor participants know which patients received treatment Random sample = each individual has an equal chance of being represented; Stratified sample = subgroups in the population are represented proportionately in the sample
