TODAY’S TALK Our people can be our greatest environmental ambassadors and change agents But harnessing their enthusiasm is not without its challenges Yet it also presents a number of opportunities! I will cover those in the next 30 mins or so, breaking my session mid way for Qs Philippa will be collating your questions as they come in so please keep them flowing. If you’re thinking of a Q, then someone else is probably thinking the same, so ask away.

Green Teams – established 2005 Harnessing staff enthusiasm Licence to take time out to think and act First step of our green journey Global model which is scalable and portable Now network of 75 teams across our 550 locations and 100+ countries Cross business collaboration – busy benefit as well as environmental benefit

Engaging With Geographically Dispersed Employees But how do you keep Green Teams “on track” especially when they work all over the world? Our strategy for effective networks includes: Information Toolkit Branding Themes but no central goals or targets set down Quarterly feedback Executive newsletters Staff suggestion box Technology – Conference calls, WebEx, Website

Engaging With Geographically Dispersed Employees But how do you keep Green Teams “on track” especially when they work all over the world? Our Teams are structured as follows: Organised by building, city or state Regional Co-ordinator Central (corporate) control Buddies Introduction to business contacts Annual whole-world event

Engaging With Geographically Dispersed Employees How do you make sure that they are working on initiatives that are aligned to your strategic environmental targets? We don’t direct their initiatives Very light touch, staff driven Make it relevant to the office/country

Engaging With Geographically Dispersed Employees What can happen if they go off at a tangent? Newsletter to share and guide Central feedback to mentor and motivate Personal phone call But before I go on……..

Engaging With Geographically Dispersed Employees Without boundaries and guidance, too much enthusiasm can be just as damaging as apathy Blockers, dead-ends Lack of enthusiasm develops Drop out

Engaging With Geographically Dispersed Employees How can staff Green Teams be structured to gain the greatest impact through linking with the business in their building or region? This is where the business links are so valuable Facilities Management Data Centres Maintenance & Engineering Sourcing Introduction made via regional Facilities Manager Gives “licence” to engage Link to personal objectives Follow up with personal introduction Team by Team Giving examples of what works – make it relevant Position the business as “enablers of change”

Successes South Africa (Cape Town) Dubai Paris Athens Poland Geneva & Baar London Iberia

Other tips Encourage each Team to find a local Executive sponsor Keep communicating with the Teams
