ESS261, Homework #1 For a day of interest: Obtain the AE index (THEMIS-AE or WDC-C Kyoto) Obtain the Dst index (Sym-H from CDAWeb or WDC-C/Kyoto) Obtain the Solar Wind speed and magnetic field (Wind, ACE, OMNI) Obtain data from THEMIS-B in the tail lobe, compute magnetic pressure When abs(Dst) is less than 60nT, i.e., a non-storm interval, show that when VBsouth increases, AE increases and when AE decreases lobe flux decreases. For a large interval (6 months) Find when abs(Dst) > 60nT, i.e., storm times, and by inspection: Determine the storm-time main phases (Dst decrease up to its peak)
