I Have No Idea What I Am Doing: HuskyCT Therapy Dan Facchinetti CETL-Educational Technologies May 15, 2017

Loose Agenda Introductions Your relationship with HuskyCT: Are you getting what you want? Am I normal?: Common HuskyCT questions/issues Take your relationship to the next level. Did you know you could… Things to consider as you plan future teaching Things fall apart. Now what? (or, Who can help?) Let it all out: Open discussion and Q&A

Are you getting what you want from this relationship? How many of you don’t use HuskyCT at all and want to learn the basics? How many use HuskyCT, but mostly just for posting and distributing materials? Use HuskyCT for assignments, quizzes/exams, etc.? Online discussions (or other forms of collaboration)? How many use HuskyCT for grade calculation?

Am I normal?: Common questions/issues How do I get a HuskyCT course site? Student Admin/PeopleSoft Where is my course? Can I reuse courses from previous semesters? abouthuskyct.uconn.edu/faculty-resources/ I’m teaching multiple sections of a course (or labs/discussions). Can I combine them all into one HuskyCT course? Why can’t my students see what I see? (we’ll come back to this…) I have my course. Now what?

What do I do with this thing? Start with your syllabus. The technology should always follow the pedagogy. What elements of your course do you think might work well online? Do you want to post course materials online? Do you want students to submit assignments/assessments online? Do you see a role in your course for written discussion postings online? Journals? Online group work? Do you want to add media to your course? Images? Audio? Video? Recorded lectures?

Why can’t my students see what I see? Availability settings! They’re everywhere! (And they can be confusing...) Student preview mode is here to help.

What else can I do?

Planning pays off. Build out your HuskyCT course according to your syllabus. Course materials Assignments Quizzes/exams Planning discussions/student engagement/collaborations Multimedia Intentional and deliberate course design makes a BIG difference. ADA

This thing doesn’t work. Now what? (or, Who can help?) irc.uconn.edu http://abouthuskyct.uconn.edu/ CETL workshops Hands-On HuskyCT cetl.uconn.edu
