Children are still expected to read on a regular basis at home. They will be heard read in a guided reading group at least once every two weeks. Focus at home on reading comprehension.

Homework Homework will be given out on Friday and collected in on Wednesday. Maths, Number bonds and times tables Topic Spellings ( for a test on Friday) Expectations: - Completed to a high standard - Handed in on time (if not before) - Honesty - Well prepared - Notes from parents

Curriculum SATs at KS1 and KS2 will continue, but will be more demanding. English has a huge focus on spelling and grammar. Each year group has an expected curriculum to cover and success will compare against expected progress and knowledge, within year 4, using the headings ‘Below , Beginning, Working within or Secure (+)We will use a system across the school called Target Tracker.

The Curriculum The curriculum represents a substantial increase in both the amount of subject matter being taught and the mathematical levels expected of children at each age range from Y3 to Y6. In general, much of what was traditionally taught in Y5/Y6 (3-digit multiplication using formal written methods, formal column addition and subtraction of 4-digit numbers as well as amounts of money, time intervals involving 24 hour clock, two-place decimals ...) now has to be completed and will be assessed by the end of Y4.

Curriculum - English In Year 4: A focus on spelling patterns: prefixes, suffixes etc. Written English: Focus on grammatical structures ie. Fronted adverbials, pronouns with nouns, the correct form of the verb etc. An emphasis on analysing different types of text, drafting and up levelling work by shared discussion. Emphasis on the proper terminology i.e determiners, possessive pronoun.

Curriculum- Maths At year 4: An over-arching emphasis that the children should be fluent in their use of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and that our number system is based on an understanding of place-value. They need to know the correct terminology and use a variety of different strategies to check their calculations. They need to be able to explain their strategies clearly. Children are encouraged to build up stamina through problem solving. In addition and subtraction, work builds up to column addition and subtraction of 4 digit numbers. Multiplication: the grid and ladder method of multiplication Division: By using known facts to help them divide larger numbers (chunking).

Curriculum-Science Year 4 science topics will be: Classification of living things, how changes in the environment can cause changes in habitat, teeth, food chains, the human digestive system, ’States of matter’ (solids, liquids and gases) and sound.

Curriculum- Information technology Facebook – age restricted. 13+ Where is your PC?
