What is Android? PHONES TABLETS Google Nexus Kindle Fire HDX HTC One Samsung Galaxy Tab Samsung Galaxy Sony Xperia Z4 Motorola Droid Lenovo Yoga Tab LG Electronics Optimus G Nexus 9 Android is an operating system created by Google for use on mobile computing devices. Runs on both smartphones and tablet computers Since many hardware manufacturers install Android as the operating system for their devices, there are many different devices with widely varying capabilities and prices Latest version: Android 6.0 Marshmallow (we’ll get to setting where you can check later)

Getting Around Three Main Buttons: Back Takes you one step back to whatever you were doing prior to the beginning of your current step Works in web navigation, e-mail navigation, or navigation to a previously open program Home Display Home screen Overview Display list of recent apps and screens App Launcher
Home screen The home screen is a place where you can place icons for your favorite apps and add widgets. Google Search bar To quickly start a search, tap the Google search box widget at the top of your home screen. You can also quickly issue voice commands to Android from here to search and perform other actions without typing anything. Notifications Using Notifications: To access your phone’s notifications, pull down the notification drawer from the top of the screen with your finger. Tap a notification to interact with it or swipe a notification to the left or right to get rid of it. Touch Gestures Tap something to activate it move your finger around the screen to scroll up and down swipe from left to right and right to left to move between screens To select something, whether it’s text or something you’d like to move around on your screen, long press it. This is the equivalent of a click-and-drag on Windows. Widgets
Google is Android’s Operating System Your google account is tightly linked with the OS Back-up phone’s settings Keep track of installed apps Google apps and services Email Calendar Drive Photos Contacts If you ever get a new Android phone or restore your current phone to its factory default settings, a Google account ensures that it’s all backed up. You can also access email, contacts, calendar events, and other data on the web. Android can even automatically upload your photos to a private album on Google+ so you’ll always have a backup copy.
