Daily Topic – brief overview of what is being taught Assignment – any homework or assignment due Letting you know – inform you of any tests or projects coming up Extra – late work reminders or extra credit opportunities Copying the TALE is the first thing you need to do when you enter the classroom. If you haven’t started the TALE by the minute bell, you will be tardy!

Grading Formative: 40% Summative: 60% Daily work Homework assignments Minor quizzes (ex: vocabulary, open-note, etc.) Summative: 60% Unit Tests If you fail a test, you are permitted to retake the same test for a max grade of 70% only once per nine weeks! Projects Major quizzes

Late Work Policy (Formatives) 1 Day Late Max grade 90 2 Days Late Max grade 80 3 Days Late Max grade 70 After 3 Days, a grade of zero will be entered in the gradebook! Parent notification will be made after the 2nd day late, or if a pattern of late work is occurring.

Academic Conduct/Procedures I will start working on the Warm Up question(s). I will wait quietly for instruction. What do I do when I’m done copying down my TALE?

Academic Conduct/Procedures How should I get Mr. Anthis’s attention if I need it? Silently hold up my hand

Academic Conduct/Procedures Mr. Anthis will form the “Silent T” or “Technical” sign with his hands. I will be quiet and keep my eyes on Mr. Anthis. I will wait for instruction and keep listening as long as Mr. Anthis is talking. How will I know and what should I do if Mr. Anthis needs my undivided attention?

Academic Conduct/Procedures Place pass on Mr. Anthis’s desk (if late excuse). Go directly to my seat without talking to Mr. Anthis or anyone else in class. Copy down TALE, answer warm up question, and quietly wait for instruction. What should I do when I am tardy or arrive with a late excuse?

Academic Conduct/Procedures What if I need to sharpen my pencil, borrow class supplies, or need a tissue? I will sharpen pencils BEFORE class begins. Pencils may be sharpened as long as Mr. Anthis is not speaking. I will raise my hand to ask to leave my seat to use supplies, get tissue, or use hand sanitizer.

Academic Conduct/Procedures How should I move around the room? Only with permission am I to be out of my seat (especially when Mr. Anthis is lecturing). When not lecturing or giving instruction, I will quickly and quietly get where I’ve been permitted to go.

Academic Conduct/Procedures If it is an appropriate time, Mr. Anthis will sign my pass. Restroom passes CANNOT be used the first 10 minutes of class OR the last 10 minutes of class (10/10 Rule) What if I would like to use one of my restroom passes?

Academic Conduct/Procedures What should I do if I finish an assignment early? I should ALWAYS have a book to read silently. If there is another assignment for Mr. Anthis’s class that needs to be completed, I can do that. After checking with Mr. Anthis, I can work on assignments for another class.

Academic Conduct/Procedures What do I do when I am absent? Talk to Mr. Anthis BEFORE or AFTER school. Email Mr. Anthis to let me know you’re absent (He likes this!) Check for handouts/assignments in green file bin or at Mr. Anthis’s website. It is MY responsibility to do make-up work!

Academic Conduct/Procedures Can we use our cell phones? Red Zone – majority of class time I will not need or use my cell phone. Green Zone – I can use it for the “kahoot” review game or various activities related to educational technology. Sometimes I can earn the right to listen to music at the end of class.

Academic Conduct/Procedures Mr. Anthis will tell me when to begin clean up Make sure all supplies are packed Make sure all trash is properly disposed Return books to shelf on the desk (not floor!) Typically I will complete a closure activity (ex: exit ticket). How are we dismissed?

Referral & Parent Contact If I am being continually defiant, insubordinate, or disrespectful, Mr. Anthis will call Mr. Steinke to take me to his office. What interventions will Mr. Anthis use if I don’t follow the conduct procedures?

What constitutes a Non-Negotiable D-Hall? 3rd Warning in a day (does NOT have to be the same behavior) Chewing Gum Loitering (no pass/no purpose) Public Displays of Affection (PDA) Eating/Drinking in the classroom (exception: plain water) Profanity (non-directed) Throwing items (trash, paper, pencils, etc.) Technology violation (using cell phone for non-educational use or without permission) Property misuse or damage (writing on desks, walls, textbooks, etc.)

What constitutes a Referral to the AP? Repeated Non-negotiable D-Hall infractions Direct insubordination Profanity (directed), abusive or inappropriate language Defiance, disrespect, or non-compliance Repeated Class Disruption Fighting or direct verbal aggression to threaten harm Academic dishonesty (cheating on ANY assignment) Out of designated location for an extended period of time (ex: taking a restroom break that results in being gone for an unreasonable and excessive amount of classroom time)

What constitutes a reward for good behavior? Students who make A’s for the 9 weeks get an AMS Tiger Star with their name on it (see black wall). Candy Music privileges Outside recreation (entire class, not individual)

Academic Conduct/Procedures I will follow ROAR and SLANT at all times. I will do my best and show effort even when its hard. When I fail, I will learn from my mistakes and commit to work harder the next time. Each day I will make the choice to have a good attitude in this class! How can I succeed in this class?
