of Full Service Scoring Full Service Scoring is designed to eliminate time lost in the classroom, eliminate the administrative tasks associated with a scoring effort, and to save you money. Your test booklets are dropped off and logged in at a central site. The constructed responses are scored by a vendor. The scores are transmitted by vendor to the local RIC or BOCES for merging with the scanned multiple choice answers. Your test booklets are ready for pickup.
Responsibilities of RICs & Districts RIC will provide barcodes with district, building & student ID information. During test administration, barcodes are affixed to books 2 & 3 for ELA , book 3 for Math, Performance and/or Written for Science, in designated area. For ELA and Science make sure student booklet barcodes match. The label does not go on the answer sheet. Package and deliver test booklets and answer sheets at a scheduled date & time after administration. You will be provided with a set of packaging instructions and box labels. Booklets go to OSC and answer sheets to the BOCES/RIC. A district representative remains at the drop-off location until all boxes and tests have been verified and counted.
Tracking of Test Booklets At Check-in, a unique barcoded Box Label is placed on each box and outlier envelope identifying the district, school and grade contents of the box. Test Booklets are verified for packaging completeness: barcodes are affixed to all tests, foreign language tests are separated, large print, word processed tests, etc. are packaged in a separate envelope within the Parent box. Test booklets are counted and verified against the counts listed on the box label (provided by OSC) affixed to the top of each box and outlier envelope. Each test’s barcode is then wanded into a database and made available for review on the Barcode Check-In Audit website Boxes are sealed and readied for delivery. Upon delivery to the scanning site, each box is flagged as being received.
Tracking of Test Booklets Test Booklets that cannot be scanned (braille, large print, etc.) shall be packaged in a separate envelope to facilitate hand scoring. Test booklets are then prepared for scanning: Each test booklet is cut. Groups of test booklets are jogged to remove erasures or other foreign materials. At all times, booklets from a single box remain together in that box. Student IDs recorded in the tracking database are compared to the IDs captured during scanning. All IDs are reconciled and accounted for before scoring commences.
Examples of box labels Box Labels created at Check-in are affixed to every box The colored labels and barcode provide quick identification of a box’s contents (district, school, grades, counts) and status

Computer Based Scoring ELA / MATH OSC will be responsible for all aspects of scoring using certified NYS trainers, leaders and teachers. Scoring will be accomplished by utilizing Questar’s ScorePoint online scoring environment. Responsibilities of participating districts: Deliver username & passwords for ScorePoint access to BOCES by a date to be agreed upon. Responsibilities of BOCES for Computer Based Scoring: Coordinate with OSC to acquire information regarding the access and scoring procedures of Questar’s ScorePoint online scoring system. Access Questar’s ScorePoint system for delivery of scored student record files.
Science 4 & 8 Writing & Performance Science tests will be packaged with the written test nested in the performance test. These tests will be packaged similarly to ELA (book 3 nested in book 2) with one class banded together. If all the classes within a box use the same rating sheet, only one master rating sheet needs to be placed at the top of the box. If each class uses a separate rating sheet, then each banded class must have a rating sheet on top of the banded tests. A box of science tests can only have 1 master rating sheet or a rating sheet for every class. If there are 4 classes in a box where 2 classes used one rating sheet and the other 2 classes had a different rating sheet, please make copies of each rating sheet and attach the appropriate sheet to the correct banded class.
Science 4 & 8 Writing & Performance (Continued) During scoring, the student’s response for a question and the appropriate range from the associated rating sheet will both be displayed on screen. Questions that do not require the rating sheet will be displayed with no additional information.
OPT-OUTS When a student Opts-out for ALL sections, do NOT submit the booklet(s). You WILL BE INVOICED for any Opt-Outs we score. If a student Opts-out for one day of testing, you MUST submit BOTH books, student gets credit for the portion he/she writes in. Ex: ELA Student sits for day 2, then decides to opt-out for day 3, both books must be submitted for scoring.
Translations When necessary, translating constructed responses from a non-English language other than Spanish to English) shall be provided by OSC. We encourage school districts to translate these other non-English Math and Science Exams in-district, prior to submitting them to OSC. Additionally, BOCES may elect to provide translating services at their own expense.
