SPANISH CLUB ¡Bienvenidos!

Our Mission The mission of the Akimel A-al Spanish Club is to help create enthusiasm and cross-cultural awareness of different aspects of Spanish-speaking culture and language.

Who can join? You do not have to be in Spanish class or speak Spanish to be in the club! Spanish Club is open to anyone in the school, and registration is done of a FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE basis. There is a behavior policy in Spanish Club. Señorita Russell has the right to prevent you from continuing in the Spanish Club if your behavior is inappropriate, or if you are failing some of your classes. School rules, procedures, and behavior policies apply when you are attending Spanish Club.

What will we do? Have Guest speakers who are native Spanish-speakers or come from a Spanish-speaking country Have presentations from some of our very own native Spanish-speakers at Akimel A-al! Arts and crafts to celebrate Spanish holidays Movie night, with food from different Spanish-speaking cultures Scavenger hunts and other activities Board games, music, and skits in Spanish Restaurant dinners Short story readings and discussions Field trips!!! *Extra fee* FRIENDS ACROSS BORDERS THE PULSERA PROJECT

When will we meet? Every other Tuesday from 3:45pm to 5:45pm. Spanish Club will have it’s first meeting on Tuesday, September 27th, and will resume after Fall Break. Students will be expected to have rides home once the meetings are over. Students from Maricopa are encouraged to carpool to make it accessible for everyone to come.

Who will decide what we do? The group will elect officers to help run the club. The officers will most likely be 8th graders who are taking Spanish at Akimel A-al. The officers will work with Señorita Russell on a regular basis to help decide what we want to do in Spanish Club and how we can fundraise for some of our projects and trips. The officers will be required to get ideas from the other members so we are all happy with the decisions being made.

How much does it cost? $55 per semester Costs will help fund the activities we decide to do in the Club, but field trips will be an extra fee. The cost is Arizona Tax Credit Eligible! Financial Assistance is available! Take a form if you think you need it. When you register, you can choose Fall Only for $55, or you can choose both semesters to reserve your spot for the Spring (for $110 total). If you are a part of a sports team or other club and cannot join until Spring, go ahead and register for Spring Only to reserve your spot.

What do I do now? Register online on the Community Education Website. Registration opens on Thursday, September 15th at 6:30pm and is FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE. You must be registered in order to attend the first meeting on September 27th after school. There are 41 spots available.
