What is a Rubric? Rubrics are an assessment tool to express the expectations of quality. Use a Rubric to: Communicate assessment expectations to students. Align pre-defined learning Outcomes to your course assessments. Assess online submissions in the SpeedGrader.
How to Create a Rubric Click the Outcomes link Click Manage Rubrics Click Add Rubric Edit Rubric Title Edit Criterion Description Add Rubric Ratings Add Rubric Points Add More Criterion Click Create Rubric
Add Rubric to an Assignment Click Assignments Tab Click the Assignment Title to open Click Add Rubric If you have a Rubric built already you can click Find an existing rubric or you can create a new rubric
Add Rubric to an Assignment Create a New Rubric Enter in the title, criteria, ratings and pts. Find an existing rubric If you want to use free-form comments check the box Use the rubric for grading Hide the total score of the rubric (criterion and points for each will still display) Click Create Rubric Note: If you select to use the rubric for grading, canvas will compare your original assignment score and the new rubric score.
Add Rubric to a Graded Discussion Click the Discussion Tab Click on the link of the discussion to open Click the Settings Icon Click Add Rubric Go through the Rubric settings (criteria, ratings, pts) 6. Click Create Rubric

Edit Rubric Details Open the Outcomes Tab Click Manage Rubrics Click The pencil to Edit a Rubric Edit/Change Details Add detailed Criteria Add multiple ratings Add points Add in depth description Add free form comments you will write on your own Note: Rubrics used in more than one place cannot be modified.
Grade Student Work Using Rubrics The SpeedGrader integrates the rubrics so you can quickly grade Assignments. Grade with a rubric: Click Grades Click on the Assignment Title to enter SpeedGrader If you have a rubric attached, click View Rubric Click on the Ratings Add comments (optional) Click Save
