WORKSHOP 1 Planetary Gear Sets Modification
Workshop Objectives: Software Version: Files Required: Modify the current planetary model and compare results in post-processor Get familiar with wizard interface Software Version: Adams 2012.1.3 Files Required: Planetary Gear 2.cmd
Suggested Exercise Steps Import start file and run the simulation Change the number of planet gears Change the number of teeth and run the simulation Compare results
Step 1. Import start file and run the simulation To get started: import the initial model: Open cmd file “Planetary Gear 2” Run simulation with 10 seconds and 1000 steps. Save simulation results as “P1”.
Step 2. Change the number of planet gears: Right click “Planet_set_1” in “Gear systems” in model browser, and choose “Modify”. Click “Next” until you get to the “Geometry” setup window. Change the number of planet gears from 4 to 3” and then re-create the system to just see the visual effect.
Step 3. Change the number of teeth Next, change the number of teeth for Planetary gear set 1. To do this: Modify “Planet_set_1” again and change the Number of Teeth, follow the rule: For example: Run the simulation with 10 seconds and 1000 steps Save simulation results as “P2”.
Step 4. Compare results Go to post processor, change Source to “Result Sets”. Compare results of “GFO_SIMPLIFIED_Ring_Pla_1_Pnanet_set_1” between “P1” and “P2” (which means the contact force between Ring gear and one of the planet gears in Gear set 1).
Step 4. Compare results c. Zoom in the time duration from “0.0 – 0.4” seconds. And compare results of P1(4 planet gears) and P2(3 planet gears)
