New Pathways to Scholarship Marilyn Geller March 31, 2009

We Work Hard to Find the right resources In the right subject areas And the right formats At the right time But that’s not enough!

E-Journals Media Media Media E-Books E-Journals E-Books E-Journals Library Collections E-Journals Media Media Media E-Books E-Journals E-Books E-Journals E-Books Primary Sources Primary Sources Teaching Resources Teaching Resources Reference Reference Reference Journals Reference Journals Journals Books Books Books Books Books Books Books

In the Old Library World We grouped books by subject. We put them on shelves. We made a record for you to find. The record led you to the book on the shelf.

Today We Build Pathways

We Need Pathways Because People approach information differently Information is sometimes buried under other information Organization of knowledge provides shared mechanics of access And because there are so many ways!

In the New Library World We give you: Pathways between Databases - Linked Content Pathways Across Databases - Cross Database Searching Pathways Through Subjects - Research Guides (Some things don’t change that much!)

Pathways between Databases Search any database View results list Look for this link Follow the Path! (For example: http://lesley.ezproxy.blackboard.com/login?url=http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=aph&bquery=(multicultural)&type=0&site=ehost-live)

Pathways Across Databases Select the Cross Search link in myLesley/myLibrary Enter your search term(s) Select a Quick Set Click “Go” (For example: http://discover.flo.org/V)

Pathways Through Subjects Select your subject in myLesley/myLibrary, and click “Go” Check out the Research Guide to steer through the best resources for your scholarly exploration
