New BC Ferries

From 2007- present a total of eight new ships have been brought into BC Ferries, three of which are the largest double ended ferries in the world. Most of the new ships were built In Germany. Built by Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft shipyard. One example of the new ships moves at 39KM/Hr. BC Ferries signed their new contract in 2004. We received the new ships because of the Olympics. Considering operating the new ships on liquefied natural gas.

The new BC Ferries ships are able to carry 145 vehicles and 600 passengers. Their contract is with Coastal Ferry Act Each vessel's two MaK 12M551AK engines produce 11,860 HP, which provides a service speed of 22 knots.
