SIRI Student Independent Research Internship Organized by JPL to provide students with real-life work experiences Training program Students are paired with JPL scientists Unpaid internship

Why SIRI Valuable hands-on experience 2 units of CS elective credit Possible future employment opportunities Full time JPLers RA (Research Apprenticeship) program APT (Academic Part-Time)

Participating Universities California Institute of Technology Cal Poly, Pomona Cal State, Long Beach Cal State, Los Angeles Cal State, Northridge Citrus College Glendale Community College Mt. San Antonio College Pasadena City College Santa Monica College UCLA USC Etc.

Program Information SIRI is offered twice a year Fall Semester September to January Students will enroll in CS461 for Fall Quarter Spring Semester February to June Students will enroll in CS461 for Winter Quarter

Application Requirements USA citizen or permanent resident At least 18 years old Cal Poly GPA 3.0 or better Completion of CS241 is preferred Provide 10-15 hours per week regularly for the period of the program Attend all Friday afternoon meetings and training sessions

Skills Required General Project dependent Critical thinking, creativity, curiosity Good communication skills Project dependent Python, C/C++ Matlab programming Java, Objective C, eclipse, XML, UML, SVN Unix, Perl, GNU parallel Knowledge of cloud computing, software security techniques, image processing, etc.

Quick Statistics 14 SIRI classes completed with 101 students participated since Fall 2006 54 CS majors, 41 ENG, 1 MAT, 4 BIO, 1 PHY Fall 2013 has 15 participants 6 CS (12 applied, 9 semi-final, 6 accepted) 9 ENG
