City Project Team Team formed to complete Management Project MP 1602 Members: Fire Chief, Darryl Anderson Library Director, Mary Cohrs Public Works Director, Brant Gary Projects Manager, Michelle Jordan Prior work has included: Review of previous City surveys Identification of specific areas, question types Discussions on preferred survey approach and a partnership with local university
Survey Goals/Desired Results Survey residents’ assessment of city service delivery Areas of Analysis Public Safety General Government Department Specific Services Other Areas as Needed Gather enough responses to provide a true representative sample Create a baseline Repeat every 2-3 years Examine trends Identify opportunities, not blame
Methodology Combined approach from industry-standard citizen surveys (best-practices) and previous City surveys Partner with the University of Houston for assistance and support Develop a survey instrument that can be completed within 10-15 minutes Method(s) of Delivery Primary – Online Secondary – Mail, phone
Partnership with a Local University Working to establish partnership utilizing both student(s) and faculty The university would assist with Help in the design of questions Review of final questions Help in sample selection Analyzing the results Development of a results summary A program evaluation of the survey process has also been discussed Student(s) working on the project would be well- versed in survey methodology Dr. James Thurmond with the University of Houston’s Public Administration program has expressed an interest in working with Bellaire on this project
University Partnership Benefits City of Bellaire would utilize current and proven survey methodologies for this project Survey is developed, implemented, and analyzed with objective participants Provides a mutually beneficial exchange of ideas between the City of Bellaire and the University of Houston Establishes a rapport that can be utilized in future projects
