Sunderland Elementary 1:1 Laptop Program

Why Integrate Technology into the classroom? Engages students and creates active learning  Encourages and facilitates individual learning and growth Facilitates peer collaboration  Prepares students for the real world  Connects students to the real world

A Blended Classroom "Blended learning, with its mix of technology and traditional face-to-face instruction, is a great approach. Blended learning combines classroom learning with online learning, in which students can, in part, control the time, pace, and place of their learning.”

How can I check my student's progress in a blended classroom? HAC Office 365 Microsoft Classroom Papers sent home

Security and Privacy CCPS is committed to ensuring students and their information is protected Office 365: Fully compliant with COPPA, CIPA, HIPPA, ISO 27001 and more Email: Only permitted to send and receive from Calvertnet email addresses Searches: Microsoft has provided us with the “Bing in the Classroom” experience Ad-free Content filtered Internet Content Filter in place to protect students and staff NOTE: The Bing in the Classroom filtered search and the Internet Content filter is only applicable while at school. When the laptop is at home it will fall under the restrictions that are in-place at the home. More information can be found here: http://o365.calvertcounty.education/

Insurance The cost for insurance is $24 for non-touch screen computers(4th grade) or $32 for touch screencomputers (5th grade)for the 2016-2017 school year. Insurance will only cover accidental damage. Insurance DOES NOT cover neglect or misuse.

What is covered by insurance? • Hardware fail • Shipping to send parts for repair • Accidental Damage Protection • Theft/Loss • Battery (1 replacement)

Insurance continued… The insurance is through a third party and covers the cost of the laptop in case of accidental damage (drops, cracked screens, liquid spills), liquid submersion, theft, fire, flood, vandalism, natural disasters, and power surges due to lightning. The students will also be issued a bag and power supply. If the bag is lost/damaged, there will be a $10 replacement charge. If the power supply is lost/damaged, there will be a $20 replacement charge. These items are not covered by the insurance.

Logistics… It is the responsibility of the student to care for the device. Personal apps, games, and programs should not be uploaded to the device – such items fill the hard drive. Laptops should be charged nightly at home or at school. A fully charged laptop should last the entire school day. If a student is having an issue with a device, they need to bring their device to their teacher. Then a “Laptop Service Ticket” will be completed. The Technology Coordinator and the IT specialist will troubleshoot the issue at the school. If the issue can not be resolved at the school, the laptop will have to be shipped to the contracted repair company.

Thank you for reviewing this information Thank you for reviewing this information! We look forward to seeing how our 1:1 program enhances your child’s learning experience!
