Think | Share What were some of the issues you were facing/managing as you began your transition to Baltimore & graduate school? What were you feeling in the month leading up to your move? What were you feeling during orientation? What were you feeling after the 1st week of class? How can this reflection & knowledge influence your role as a Global Guide?

Program Objectives Increase interaction between and among cohorts Establish a welcoming and comfortable community for first-year students Assist mentees with general information in areas including academics, career development, and general adjustment Enhance your skills in leadership, communication and managing relationships

Matching ~90 1st Year GMBAs Primary matching criteria is industry / functional preferences Matching announced by end of May Important Dates: Initiate Communication: by mid-June Summer Intensive Program: July 15 – July 31 GMBA Orientation: August 7 – August 14 Fall 2015 Semester Begins: August 18

Relationship Expectations Establish trust and maintain confidentiality Respond to communication from mentors/mentees and administrators Listen! Actively! Provide honest yet tactful feedback about the mentoring relationship and be open to receiving feedback Keep any commitments made Work out minor concerns about the relationship; if larger issues arise, contact program administrators

Global Guide Expectations Provide help and encouragement for issues relating to mentees’ career goals and development Serve as a positive role model for the Carey Business School Maintain monthly communication with each mentee (June – October) Meet with your mentees individually (by August 31) Meet with your mentees and individually or in groups at least once a month (September, October) Attend all program events (August gathering, end of October closing) What events to hold? Communication methods over the summer? Who –when? We anticipate the time commitment to be 20-25 hours from June - October

Timeline | April – October 2014 May 2015 Guide training Participant applications due Matching June 2015 Program monthly emails Guide/participant communication initiated (by 6/1) August 2015 Welcome event (all, sometime during 1st week of classes) Program communication September 2015 Guide/participant communication Activities? October 2015 Check-in meeting for each group Guide/participant communication & meeting End-of-program event Remainder of the Year Maintain communication as you see fit Guide applications due Program communication begins

Discussion Topics to Discuss with your mentees: Where to live and how to search for a place to live Transportation advice Local attractions (grocery stores, bookstores, hair dressers, gyms, etc.) Cultural differences and tips (in and outside the classroom) Academic expectations (tips for being successful); avoid passing judgment, rather say how you felt, what you thought, your approach, etc.

Discussion New Program Elements: Guide/participant (mentor/mentee) Facebook page management - ? FAQ list for mentees - ? Other ideas?
