1 In the twelfth year of Ahaz king of Judah, Hoshea son of Elah became king of Israel in Samaria, and he reigned nine years. 2 He did evil in the eyes of the Lord, but not like the kings of Israel who preceded him. 3 Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up to attack Hoshea, who had been Shalmaneser’s vassal and had paid him tribute.  4 But the king of Assyria discovered that Hoshea was a traitor, for he had sent envoys to So king of Egypt, and he no longer paid tribute to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year. Therefore Shalmaneser seized him and put him in prison.  2 Kings 17:1-8; 13-14, 18, 23 p. 219 – 220, The Story

5 The king of Assyria invaded the entire land, marched against Samaria and laid siege to it for three years.  6 In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria captured Samaria and deported the Israelites to Assyria. He settled them in Halah, in Gozan on the Habor River and in the towns of the Medes. 7 All this took place because the Israelites had sinned against the Lord their God, who had brought them up out of Egypt from under the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt. They worshiped other gods 8 and followed the practices of the nations the Lord had driven out before them, as well as the practices that the kings of Israel had introduced.   2 Kings 17:1-8; 13-14, 18, 23 p. 219 – 220, The Story

13 The Lord warned Israel and Judah through all his prophets and seers: “Turn from your evil ways. Observe my commands and decrees, in accordance with the entire Law that I commanded your ancestors to obey and that I delivered to you through my servants the prophets.” 14 But they would not listen and were as stiff-necked as their ancestors, who did not trust in the Lord their God. 18 So the Lord was very angry with Israel and removed them from his presence. Only the tribe of Judah was left. 23 So the people of Israel were taken from their homeland into exile in Assyria, and they are still there. 2 Kings 17:1-8; 13-14, 18, 23 p. 219 – 220, The Story

1 In the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, Hezekiah son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign.  2 He was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem twenty-nine years. His mother’s name was Abijah daughter of Zechariah.  3 He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, just as his father David had done.  4 He removed the high places, smashed the sacred stones and cut down the Asherah poles. 7 And the Lord was with him; he was successful in whatever he undertook. He rebelled against the king of Assyria and did not serve him. 2 Kings 18:1-4; 7 p. 220 - 221, The Story

10 Do not let the god you depend on deceive you when he says, ‘Jerusalem will not be given into the hands of the king of Assyria.’  11 Surely you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all the countries, destroying them completely. And will you be delivered? 12 Did the gods of the nations that were destroyed by my predecessors deliver them—the gods of Gozan, Harran, Rezeph and the people of Eden who were in Tel Assar?  13 Where is the king of Hamath or the king of Arpad? Where are the kings of Lair, Sepharvaim, Hena and Ivvah?” 2 Kings 19:10-13 bottom of p. 222, The Story

Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers and read it Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers and read it. Then he went up to the Temple of the LORD and spread it out before the LORD. And He prayed to the LORD. 2 Kings 19:14 p. 222 - 223, The Story

15 Lord, the God of Israel, enthroned between the cherubim, you alone are God over all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth.  16 Give ear, Lord, and hear; open your eyes, Lord, and see; listen to the words Sennacherib has sent to ridicule the living God. 17 It is true, Lord, that the Assyrian kings have laid waste these nations and their lands.  18 They have thrown their gods into the fire and destroyed them, for they were not gods but only wood and stone, fashioned by human hands.  19 Now, Lord our God, deliver us from his hand, so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you alone, Lord, are God. 2 Kings 19:15-19 p. 223, The Story

In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to him and said, “This is what the Lord says: Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover." 2 Kings 20:1

2 Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord,  3 “Remember, Lord, how I have walked before You faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly. 2 Kings 20:2-3

4 Before Isaiah had left the middle court, the word of the Lord came to him:  5 “Go back and tell Hezekiah, the ruler of my people, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will heal you. On the third day from now you will go up to the temple of the Lord.  6 I will add fifteen years to your life. And I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria. I will defend this city for my sake and for the sake of my servant David.’” 2 Kings 20:4-6

27 “Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say 27 “Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour. 28 Father, glorify your name!” John 12:27-28 28 Then a voice came from heaven, “I have glorified it, and will glorify it again.”  29 The crowd that was there and heard it said it had thundered; others said an angel had spoken to him. John 12:28-29
