World War Two Part 6 The Tide Turns

Island-Hopping The Victory at Midway gave the U.S. Naval Superiority in the Pacific US Strategy became to… Skip over Islands Japan had heavily fortified, and invade less fortified ones. Cut off the fortified island’s supplies, forcing Japan to abandon the island. Invade another less fortified islands

North Africa Out-numbered and attacked from both east and west Rommel defended brilliantly and retreated to Tunisia. Feb 1943 At the Battle of the Kasserine Pass, The American Armored Forces commanded by Patton defeat the Afrika Korps but the Germans are not divided Rommel, became ill, and left Africa By May 1943 Axis Forces have been driven from Africa, captured, or destroyed

The “Russian Front” On the front between Russia and Germany Fighting was hard In February 1943 German General Manstein launched a skillful Counter-offensive At first it drove back the Soviets but soon was exhausted In the Summer, Fall and Winter the Soviets attack and drive the Germans back step by step.
