IPv6 within the Australian Government Colin Thomas Manager, Whole-of-Government ICT Infrastructure Department of Finance and Administration Australian Government Information Management Office

Introduction Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO) Business Group within the Department of Finance and Administration Role: To foster the efficient and effective use of information and communications technology by Australian Government departments and agencies

AGIMO Role Government-wide ICT strategies, standards, and technical architectures; Better practice guidance and support to government agencies; and Mechanisms to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of government agencies and services, including sharing of knowledge, experiences, services, infrastructure and applications, intellectual property and resources.

Information Management Strategy Committee Secretaries and CEOs from agencies with key central roles or major responsibility for delivering services online.  Responsible for: promoting closer collaboration between agencies; the delivery of more integrated and interactive information and services online; and a cooperative approach to decisions on standards, investment, security, privacy, shared infrastructure and reuse of intellectual property. Focus is to ensure that ICT-related decisions reflect impacts and benefits across government, rather than on individual agencies.

Chief Information Officer Committee IMSC is supported by a Chief Information Officer Committee. CIOC comprises 27 CIOs drawn from both key central agencies and agencies that are high users of ICT.

IPv6 - Drivers Interoperability IT industry support Government services increasingly multi-agency, multi-jurisdictional or whole-of-government basis, or in partnership with business or community organisations. IT industry support Government spends over $5 billion on ICT products and services per annum.

IPv6 - Drivers “Future-proofing” “Control” Possible improvements in efficiency and effectiveness through improved scalability, reliability and security. “Control” It’s here! IPv6-capable software and equipment probably already exist in agency networks Threat and risk assessment?
