Probability Standard 6C

Probability refers to the chance that an event will happen.

Probability is presented as the ratio of the number of ways an event can occur relative to the number of possible outcomes.

Examples:

Jack has written the name of each planet of the solar system on a separate piece of paper and has placed all these pieces of paper in a bag. The names he included are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. If he picks a piece of paper at random from the bag, what is the probability that the name of the planet written on it contains fewer than 6 letters? 5/8 B. 3/8 C. ¾ D. ½

Marge has a book that holds her stamp collection Marge has a book that holds her stamp collection. In this collection, 6 stamps are from England, 6 are from France, 8 are from the United States, and 3 are from Germany. Marge lives in the United States. If she picks a stamp at random from her collection, what is the probability that it is from a foreign country? A. 8/23 B. 15/23 C.. 12/23 D. 8/15
