Homework Friday, June 08, 2018 Play Outside Objective: YWBAT demonstrate mastery of the Formation of the Solar System. Drill: Why does the moon have different phases? Last chance to turn in - Phases of the Moon Homework Play Outside

Answer The phases occur because, as the moon revolves around the Earth, we observe different amounts of the side of the moon that is illuminated by the sun.

Did you know…? The Earth rotates on its axis once every 24 hours. The rotation of the Earth causes different parts of Earth to face the sun at different times. This results in a day and night in each 24 hour period.

Today’s Activities Drill Formation of the Solar System Mastery Conclusion

How can we describe the orbital paths of planets around the sun? Closure Question How can we describe the orbital paths of planets around the sun?

Conclusion Answer Planets orbit the sun in paths described by ellipses that are not circular, but are close to being circular.
