First I would like to describe a few basic facts about Norway.

Geography Norway is situated in the western part of the Scandinavian peninsula. It is the most northern country  in Europe  . Norway capital city is Oslo. Norway is a constitutional democracy in Northern Europe with a population around 5 million. The  Head of State is His Majesty King Harald V of Norway. Official language is Norwegian. State currency is a Norwegian kroner.   Most of the country is covered by mountains. Norway is also famous for their fjords, or long inlets of the sea, penetrating inland.

Norwegian People and Nature Most Norwegians live in single-family homes and large apartments, their love for electric or electronic  goods and equipment is well known and a kind of obsession. Norwegian People like to be attached to nature and to lead a simple life. Thousands of Norwegians spend weekends and holidays at the family cabin, which are located as far from others as possible. Hiking and going for walks are a way of getting out of the house, as Norwegians put it; you leave civilization and all its comforts behind to get in touch with your inner self and feel like an authentic person. The success of a walk is measured by the number of people you meet along the way. The fewer the people, the more successful the walk was.

Culture Norway is home to a number of Nobel laureates. The main influence on the Culture of Norway is that of the Vikings. They were great shipbuilders . There are also a lot of beautifully-decorated churches and buildings  across the country. FILM

Finally a few interesting but strange  facts about Norway and Norwegians. Norwegians love frozen pizza. The Grandiosa frozen pizza is unofficially named as the Norwegian national dish Fellesferien Literally meaning the communal holiday. It is the time of the year, second week of July, when most Norwegians take their four week summer holiday. This is a logical choice as the weather normally should be at its best during this time of the year. Everything slows down in this period, even the reporting in the media.

Police stations. Many police stations in Norway are only opened during office hours, because of the shortage of money . Many of the police stations are closed during the weekends. People in need of police assistance are urged by an automatic phone message to contact the station during office hours. Boxing. Boxing was banned on TV up until the late eighties, because the director of the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation at the time, considered the sport immoral. Brown cheese. And finally, did you know that one of the most popular cheeses in Norway is brown?
