Inclement Weather Makeup Time Franklin County Schools Board of Education Meeting March 14, 2016

GCS-G-001 School systems throughout North Carolina will require a minimum of 185 days or 1,025 hours of instruction covering at least nine calendar months. Instructional time is that time during which students are assigned to a teacher for the primary purpose of instruction. Instruction is any activity that leads toward the mastery of specific educational goals as stated in the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and local guides.

MAKEUP PLAN Student Days Missed Makeup Time January 22, 25,26 2/15/16* Early Release Days: Feb. 12* Mar. 9* April 20* May 18* February 12, February 15 Extend school day by 45 minutes, Monday- Thursday, during the weeks of May 9th and May 16th

RATIONALE Would provide additional time for remediation in preparation for EOG/EOC testing Would be more beneficial for students than June 9 and 10- the originally approved makeup days in priority order
