Use of Data to Improve Instruction Haverford’s Standards-Based Curriculum Assessments in core content areas illustrate our students knowledge of the skills reflected by the Standards. OSCAR is our system for quickly analyzing results on teacher-created curriculum-based assessments. The results give us insights that enable us to quickly adjust instruction in areas of difficulty.

Use of Data to Improve Instruction Over the past two years, teams of teachers created common mid-terms, unit tests, and finals in the middle and high school, in all core content areas – English, Math, Social Studies and Science, 6-12. This past year, common, PA Standards-Based reading selection tests have been introduced in all schools, grades 2-5

PA Academic Standards/Eligible Content Standard 1.2 Reading, Analyzing & Interpreting Text Eligible Content: R3.A.1.6.1 Identify the author’s intended purpose of text. Standard 1.3 Reading, Analyzing and Interpreting Literature Eligible Content R3.B.2.1.1 Identifying literary devices in Selected readings (e.g. personification, simile, alliteration).

Weakness: Author’s Intended Purpose Strength: Identifying Literary Devices

Science Standards, Assessment Anchors and Eligible Content Question 10: S8.A The Nature of Science S8.A.2.1 Apply knowledge of scientific investigation or technological design in different contexts to make inferences to solve problems. S8.A.2.1.4 Interpret data/observations; develop relationships among variables based on data/observations to design models as solutions. Questions 24 and 25: S8.C Physical Sciences S8.C.2 Forms, Sources, Conversion, and Transfer of Energy S8C.3 Principles of Motion and Force S8.C.2.1.1 Distinguish among forms of energy energy, or conversion of energy. S8.C.3.1.2 Distinguish between kinetic and potential energy. Standards Aligned System 3.2.8.B2: Identify situations where kinetic energy is transformed into potential energy, and vice versa.

Keystone Exams: Algebra I : Assessment Anchors and Eligible Content A1.2.1.1 Analyze and/or use patterns or relations A1.2.1.1.1 Analyze a set of data for the existence of a pattern and represent the pattern algebraically and/or graphically. A1.2.2.1 Describe, compute, and/or use the rate of change (slope) of a line. A1.2.2.1.4 Determine the slope and/or y-intercept represented by a linear equation or graph. Note: Linear equation may be in point‐slope, standard, and/or slope‐intercept form.

Weakness: Describe, compute, and/or use the rate of change of a line. Strength: Analyze and/or use patterns or relations.

OSCAR at the Elementary School Administrators Capability to analyze student performance Ability to identify strengths and needs Opportunity to plan with and support teachers Teachers Immediate access to individual and group performance results Ability to identify individual and group strengths and needs Supports decision-making for re-teaching and/or challenge opportunities Data and reports are aligned to our standards based report card Enhances communication with parents Students Opportunity to analyze correct/incorrect answer choices Opportunity to discuss and analyze successful/unsuccessful strategies Evolving / technology piece (software-hardware-vision) / useful tool to support instruction
