Nifty Thrifty 50 Speed Challenge This self running presentation will help you achieve automaticity of 50 important words. These words contains common roots, prefixes and suffixes. When you master the spelling patterns and meanings of these words, you can apply that knowledge to help spell and understand more than 800 other words! Each word in this presentation will change after 1 seconds. You should be able to read and pronounce the word before it disappears. If you are just beginning to learn these word, you should practice with a slower presentation before taking the speed challenge. Remember, just being able to pronounce the words is not enough. You must also know how to spell them and know what they mean. All prefixes are in red, all roots are in black, and all suffixes are in green. Click here to begin! What is automaticity? Automaticity is the ability to effortlessly complete a task with without thinking about it. When the brain recognizes a familiar task, such as reading a word, it automatically processes the information and applies what it has previously learned. This reduces the demand on memory and allows for higher order thinking. This means when you can read these 50 words without thinking about them, you will have more brain power!
