Food and How Families lived Mayan food was cooked and served in pottery utensils. Maize was made into tortillas. Tortillas were the main food of the Mayans along with stews and vegetables. Families lived in houses with hay roofs and walls made of stone or mud. Boys in the Mayan society learned farming from their fathers. From the ages 4-5, the boys stayed in communal houses with others the same age. Girls stayed with their mothers and learned how to cook, how to take care of their house and family, how to spin, weave, and how to make clothes
