Extemporaneous Speaking It’s easier than it’s spelled!

Extemp A speaking event on domestic and foreign current topics. You will not know your topic until the beginning of the round.

Rules Draw 3-5 topics & choose 1. 30 minutes to prep. 7 minutes to speak. Use 9-12 sources. Information must be current and credible Use basic speech organization Note card use Highlighting & writing on articles

Preparation Know Current International, National, & Local Issues Read & Watch Credible Sources Print Credible Articles with Complete Source Citation File articles in appropriate foreign or domestic “extemp tubs” Review files in extemp tubs Know effective delivery style Know what to do when you get in the room Refile articles when you return to prep room.
