CHAPTER ONE

SQUADRONS 1000 Cadet Units in the Corps 930 Squadrons 73 Detached Flights ‘Open’ or ‘School’ Combined Cadet Force 180 CCF Units with 9000 cadets

SQUADRONS Air Defence Cadet Corps (ADCC) Formed in 1938 First 50 Squadrons were Founder Squadrons Permitted to use ‘F’ after the unit number Air Training Corps formed in 1941 All ADCC units were absorbed There are still 30 Founder Squadrons

CADET CLASSIFICATION CLASSIFICATION SUBJECTS COVERED CADET SECOND CLASS (FCTC) ATC, RAF, Map Reading, First Aid etc CADET FIRST CLASS Principles of Flight, Airmanship, Basic Nav LEADING CADET 2 subjects from a range of 8 below SENIOR CADET 2 further subjects from the remaining 6 STAFF CADET PART I Staff Part II training course and interview Aircraft Handling, Air Navigation, Propulsion, Pilot Navigation, Operational Flying, Airframes, Radio/Radar, Satellite Communications. NCO’s Non-Commissioned Officer’s Corporal (Cpl) Sergeant (Sgt) Flight Sergeant (FS) Cadet Warrant Officer (CWO)

NCO’s Promotions are the responsibility of the Commanding Officer of the Squadron Number of NCO’s per Squadron depends on the size of the Squadron NCO ‘establishment’ is laid down in AP1919 Maximum age for a Cadet/NCO is 20 years old

CWO CWO is a Wing Appointment not a Squadron Appointment Minimum age is 18 years old The number of CWO’s a Wing can have is the number of Squadrons multiplied by one and two thirds ECSM are allowed 38 CWO’s Maximum age to remain as a CWO is 20 years old (reduced from 22 years after the LASER review)

NCO ‘establishment’ F1 and F2 are usually Detached Flights TYPE STRENGTH CWO FS Sgt Cpl TOTAL A 100+ 3 4 7 8 22 B 81-100 2 5 6 16 C 61-80 1 14 D 46-60 12 E 30-45 10 F1 15-30+ 9 F2 10-14 F1 and F2 are usually Detached Flights 146 is a Type A Squadron

CHAPTER TWO

COMMISSIONED OFFICER’s Represent the Queen and enforce her rules and regulations Gives you lawful authority Authority from the head of state A Salute is given to the Commissioned Officer as a sign to the Queen, a return Salute is on behalf of the Queen Salute is given out as a sign of respect

SQUADRON STAFF Staff numbers are determined by the strength of the Squadron Wing can authorise ‘over establishment’ Do not exceed 1.66 times the AP1919 figures Squadron with a band may appoint an additional AWO or SNCO as bandmaster ‘A’ classification squadrons will have a Squadron Leader as CO

INTERVIEW About 30 minutes long Knock and wait to be invited in Salute on entering the room Firm Handshake with the Reviewing Officer Wait to be told to take a seat Sit up Straight (in the attention position) Don’t fidget!! SMILE! 

When the Interview is complete, Shake Hands Say “Thank You” Salute on the way out as normal Close the door Wait for the feedback!! 
