***THIS PROJECT WILL BE WORTH 1 DAILY GRADE.*** Insulator Inventor Performance Task In science we have been learning about heat. Heat is the flow of thermal energy from warmer objects to cooler objects. To keep an object from getting cooler/hotter people use insulators. An insulator is any material that does not allow heat to pass through it easily. For example, Styrofoam cups are used to keep drinks cold. Georgia Performance Standard S3P1b. Investigate how insulation affects heating and cooling. Your Job: You are a scientist who has just been assigned to invent an insulator to keep an ice cube from melting. Make this insulator using materials you have at your house. ** The word INVENT means to come up with a NEW way to insulate something, so be creative. You may combine current insulators to make a better one. Requirements: Students must create an insulator out of materials from home and bring them in on or before the due date. Students must write a 3-5 sentence paragraph explaining why their invention will work the best and keep an ice cube from melting. Ice cubes will be provided at school to test insulators. DUE: Wed., March 2nd Any project turned in later than the due date will receive an automatic 10 point grade reduction. We will be using the insulators for an in class experiment on Wed., 2nd. ***THIS PROJECT WILL BE WORTH 1 DAILY GRADE.***
