Safe & Well Linking June 2015

Safe & Well Linking Purpose: Help reconnect people separated by disaster Assist people to notify love ones that they are safe Search for missing people who have certain health or mental health conditions

Safe & Well Linking All Red Cross workers should know the basics in S&W in order to help disaster victims: Use the S&W web site to register Help resolve Welfare Inquires Assist with Family Reunification Requests

Safe & Well Linking Not intended for International Cases U.S. State Dept. or Country Embassy Not a substitute for Armed Forces Assistance Not a tool to identify or reconnect unaccompanied minor children Local government is responsible

Safe & Well Linking How can Mass Care Help? Have registration forms available at MC sites and on ERVs & BD vehicles Collect and turn in forms for completion at HQ’s when / if power / phones are out Asst. ARC S&W staff when they are conducting searches. (Shelter rosters). Know what other agencies are available to help. Take the S&W Linking Fundamentals course on line. It’s quick and easy.

Safe & Well Linking Other ways to help: Assign S&W staff in shelters quickly. ERV crews spread word, distribute and collect forms. Report special cases to S&W staff for follow up. Involve DMH / DHS for special cases.
