Writer’s Reflection and Writing Concrete Details Using TLQ

Learning Targets I can reflect on my writing abilities and determine the skills that need improvement before completing my final draft. I can share my topic sentences and CDs with a partner to determine the most effective evidence for my writing. After selecting the best CDs, I can write a TLQ to embed my quotes in my writing.

Writer’s Reflection Using the list of writing skills we have practiced, identify the strengths in your writing and the writing skills you would still like to improve. Writing Skills We Have Practiced 2013.docx Share 

Concrete Detail Evaluation Directions Step 1: On your own, evaluate the CDs you have listed for your topic sentences and select the two best CDs to prove the opinion in topic sentence # 1. Step 2 : Share topic sentence #1with a partner and explain the CDs you have selected to prove the point in this topic sentence. Give your partner feedback. Did they select the most effective CDs to prove their point? Is there a better one you would suggest?

Concrete Detail Evaluation Step 3: Share topic sentence # 2 with a partner and explain the two CDs you have selected to prove the point in this topic sentence. Give your partner feedback. Did they select the most effective CDs to prove their point? Is there a better one you would suggest? Step 4: Take out your TLQ handout. Using the TLQ format that you have learned, embed your quotes in your paragraphs. Example: For instance, after Doodle refuses to touch his own casket, the narrator says, “ ‘…before I’ll help you down from the loft, you’re going to have to touch it’ ” (3). Enrichment: If you finish your TLQ before everyone else, begin working on your CM. Remember that CM is your opinion about the CD. What does it tell you or show you about your opinion? Work until the bell. 

Check For Understanding On the front of your “Scarlet Ibis” writing packet, rate yourself using the scale below to indicate how successful you feel about completing your TLQ. Turn your packet into the bin before leaving today. 0 – I still have no idea how to write my TLQ. 1 – I still need some one-on-one help to be successful. 2 – I did okay, but I’m not sure if it’s 100% correct. 3 – I think I did great and I know I did my TLQ with 100% accuracy.
