Learning Through Experience John Dewey Learning Through Experience

Would you rather learn like this…

Or like this?

As dance educators you promote… Physical Development Emotional Growth Social Skills Cognitive Development Cultural Awareness Literacy Critical Thinking

Can dance be taught without experience?

Dance is an experiential art form… No! Dance is an experiential art form… Participating Viewing Analyzing Critiquing Performing

How can experiential learning enhance your teaching practices? When lesson planning, provide your students with rich learning experiences. Movement explorations Dance technique Dance making and sharing Incorporate technology When planning your units Plan field trips to see live dance performances Allow for video viewing of master works Build in performance opportunities for your students

Why is it important to learn through experience? Education should be relatable and accessible. Children gain deeper knowledge from hands-on learning. Learning is more interesting and fun when it is hands-on!

Without experiential learning… We would not have dance in schools.
