Report from the Committee Sponsored by

REPORT FROM THE COMMITTEE 2016-17 We didn’t lose any teams during the season  Minimal weather related postponements; The trend is that we get hit with some cold weather in January so games are postponed due to frozen pitches, especially the early slots A reminder for Premier Division clubs to contact the Umpiring Appointment Committee when games are postponed The mandatory slip dates are working well; reminder that clubs should schedule these dates when seeking player availability All fixtures were completed, of sorts, …… but there were too many walk-overs; 23 matches from Division 1-6 Sponsored by

LEAGUE STRUCTURE FOR THE 2017-18 (1) CLARIFICATION For information, the South League have restructured One team promoted to the South No teams have been relegated from the South League We have received two requests for additional teams to enter the League next season (Slough 4s, Amersham & Chalfont 6s) We have been working with two clubs supporting a merger (Abingdon and Abingdon Pilgrims) but as a consequence one club/team has withdrawn from the league (Abingdon Pilgrims) Sponsored by

LEAGUE STRUCTURE FOR THE 2017-18 (2) CLARIFICATION Fixtures out LEAGUE STRUCTURE FOR THE 2017-18 (2) CLARIFICATION So what does this all mean for the league ….. As a league we have 1 space then we are full; all divisions, with the exception of division 6, will contain 12 teams for the new season; division 6 will run with 11 teams. We have had to re-jig the divisions with Abingdon Pilgrims withdrawing from the league Hockey numbers are going from strength to strength; many of our new teams over recent years are a result of back-to-hockey programmes Reminder of the rules; one promotion and one relegation is guaranteed For the majority, we have promoted two teams from each division and relegated one teams from each division Reminder Update captains information Sponsored by

AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT DURING 2017-18 (1) Match sheets; v2.4 on the website (no changes from last season) Present the match sheet to the umpires ahead of the game Ensure the sheets are completed appropriately Ensure the hand writing is legible Submit them within a few days of the match PROPOSAL 1 Sponsored by

AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT DURING 2017-18 (2) Bench players; Ensure your captains are familiar with rule Inform the umpires and note on the match form Can only play for a total of 30 minutes They should not be part of the starting line-up Team bound; Note them on the match form A goal keeper cannot become team bound Sponsored by

AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT DURING 2017-18 (3) Clubs to provide appropriate information on the league website and their club website Slip dates are mandatory – dates for the new season will be made available on the website When postponing fixtures, please; Be mindful of oppositions travelling Don’t postpone matches too early Be supportive Keep an eye on the weather Sponsored by

AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT DURING 2017-18 (4) Behaviour of players and spectators; A Captain has responsibility to control her players and bench Bad language on the pitch must be stamped out Aggressive behaviour towards junior players is not acceptable Umpiring appointments; Appoint umpires responsibly i.e. appropriate standard of umpire to the appropriate standard of game Ensure that they can deal with issues on the pitch responsibly Ensure they are equipped properly Shouts of “foul play” – suggested that players listed on the match sheet are different to those on the pitch Sponsored by

REPORT FROM THE UMPIRES COMMITTEE (1) For the last five seasons we have provided appointed umpires for both Premier Division One and Two Whilst the distribution of umpires was better this year, i.e. all clubs finally providing umpires most weeks as required, we did have to chase and hassle certain clubs. This is far from ideal Expenses are rising due to umpires travelling further and there being less doubling up Clubs need to take greater responsibility for encouraging people to take up umpiring. Hockey cannot thrive without umpires! Sponsored by

REPORT FROM THE UMPIRES COMMITTEE (2) Discussion about current umpiring qualifications for each division Unable to police unqualified umpires Are they appropriately insured? Lack of knowledge of the rules May impact the outcome of the game Unable to deal with complaints Proposal 2 Proposal 3 Sponsored by

League Rules Sponsored by

2017-18 RULE CHANGES (1) 4(iv) Any Club with more than one team playing in the same division of the League shall nominate, before 1st November, eight players from the higher team in that division who, from 1st November onwards, will not be permitted to play in the lower team in that division 4d(3) a Bench player - a regular player in a lower team who is a genuine 'bench player' for a higher team – save that the number of bench players who can play the second game is limited to two The way we submit results next season is changing – web based. Details to be provided (how to guide) Sponsored by

7 incidents of registration breaches resulting in points deductions PLAYER REGISTRATION REMINDERS 4(vii) All player registrations should be made before 6pm on the Friday prior the match. Note: If submitted later than 6pm they will not be eligible until the following week (vi) Registrations shall be acknowledged by the Registration Secretary. A unique player registration number is assigned to each player. Note: Do not assume that a player is eligible as you have submitted a registration or transfer request, wait until you receive confirmation. If players are transferring from another club, please request a player transfer rather than submitting a new registration. It’s a much neater arrangement and ensures that the previous club is aware of the transfer and clears the player off their own registers. Can clubs please delete duplicate registrations – there are several. It is prudent for clubs to do some housekeeping and de-register players who have left before the new season. 7 incidents of registration breaches resulting in points deductions Sponsored by
