CHÂTEAU FERRANDE GRAVES Château Ferrande is situated in the village of Castres sur Gironde, part of the Graves appellation, some 30 minutes from Bordeaux.

CHÂTEAU FERRANDE GRAVES UNIQUELY CHARMING One of the great terroirs, unmistakeably ‘Graves’ in character, makig for red and white wines. Châteaux Castel’s only Bordeaux white A recognised terroir: Château Ferrande is a member of the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux Full of personality, with a distinctive yellow label An unusual Graves white, made using one of the appellation’s historic grape varieties, Sauvignon Gris. Ferrande Rouge is a Graves classic

CHÂTEAU FERRANDE GRAVES HISTORY The Castel family acquired Château Ferrande in 1992, after 16 years of agricultural management. The name Ferrande has its roots in local history: at one time, the château was a staging post where horses were shod; the French word for this is ferrer. The manor house was rebuilt at the end of the 19th century.

CHÂTEAU FERRANDE GRAVES VINEYARDS Area: 97 hectares of vineyard in total: 90 hectares of red 7 hectares of white Soils: Guntzian gravel over a clay sub-soil. Iron oxide is also present at a deeper level. Planting density: 9,600 vines per hectare Varietal mix: RED - Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot Varietal mix: WHITE - Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvignon Gris, Semillon

TWO GREAT WINES – ONE RED, ONE WHITE – BOTH WITH DISTINCTIVE LABELS CHÂTEAU FERRANDE GRAVES WINES TWO GREAT WINES – ONE RED, ONE WHITE – BOTH WITH DISTINCTIVE LABELS

CHÂTEAU FERRANDE GRAVES VINTAGE 2013 TO SERVE CLIMATE HARVEST DATES Cumulative annual rainfall was higher than the 30-year average (179 days compared to the 30-year average of 124 days). Autumn and the start of winter were particularly cold and rainy. The beginning of April was more like a continuation of winter – very cold, with 35mm of rain. The rain stopped in mid-April, just in time to allow for bud-break; but there was still little sign of spring. May and June were humid, with 32 days of rain (compared to the seasonal norm of 19 days) and were the coldest since 1984 – and this was flowering season! Summer finally arrived in July. The weather was hot and dry, giving rise to violent storms and causing shoots to continue growing even at the time of veraison. August was much calmer with summery conditions. September and October were mild and humid, causing widespread development of grey mould. HARVEST DATES Merlot: September 13th to October 6th Cabernet Sauvignon: October 6th – 9th BLEND 51 % merlot 49 % cabernet sauvignon OUR EXPERT SAY « This has been one of the most technical vintages of recent years. Despite the major potential of the Ferrande terroir, this year it needed more ‘human’ input than usual. Picking was meticulous, fermentation temperatures were controlled with surgical precision and wines were tasted daily. No efforts were spared in ensuring Château Ferrande 2013 was a success!  » 17 °C 5-10 years 13 % vol 1 hour 30 TASTING NOTES Château Ferrande 2013 shows a beautiful dark crimson colour. A classic Ferrande nose of black fruit and fresh cocoa, with additional nutty romas. Supple on the attack, leading to a well structured body with molten tannins and delicious flavours of ripe fruit. The finish is long - and irresistibly moreish! Marc Maintenat Director

CHÂTEAU FERRANDE GRAVES VINTAGE 2013 Gold Medal NOTES MEDALS 17+ 14,5 Concours mondial de Bruxelles 14,5 « Woody and milky with the soft, gentle texture of Merlot. Not too much body on the mid-palate, but skilfully made; ready for drinking more or less straight away. » 14,5 «Good finesse, good persistence, good elegance. Success times 3! Smooth and sophisticated with fine tannins. Very fine, very subtle. »

CHÂTEAU FERRANDE GRAVES VINTAGE 2014 TO SERVE CLIMATE HARVEST DATES The year was divided into two very distinct ‘seasons’: the growing season which got off to a dank, cold start, and the hot, sunny weather that followed at the end of summer and beginning of autumn. These sharply contrasting conditions have shaped the character of 2014’s wines. Cool temperatures inhibited shoot growth; growth was particularly slow in April and May as both months were cold and damp. As the weather warmed up the vines began to grow more rapidly, notably from June 10th onwards. June remained warm and sunny. Temperatures fell again in July, and growth slowed once more. There was little rainfall as grapes ripened. September and October weather was exceptionally dry and sunny, and unlike the right bank, the left bank was spared September’s 50mm rainstorm. HARVEST DATES Merlot: 26th September – 2nd October Cabernet Sauvignon: 11th-16th October BLEND 51 % merlot 49 % cabernet sauvignon OUR EXPERT SAY « 2014 was a great year for Cabernet Sauvignons, and the Château Ferrande vineyards with their deep gravel terroir and ideal sun exposure, were the perfect way to showcase them. Merlots give the wines body, but the structure is down to Cabernet Sauvignons. Overall a great year for this Château. » 17 °C 3 - 6 years 13 % vol 1 hour TASTING NOTES Château Ferrande 2014 shows a deep, beautifully intense colour – almost black. Red fruit on the nose with a smattering of warm, toasty notes and a hint of vanilla. A smooth attack followed by a beautifully full body with powerful, elegant tannins. Very harmonious on the palate, leading to a good, long finish. Marc Maintenat Director

CHÂTEAU FERRANDE GRAVES VINTAGE 2014 Silver Medal Silver Medal NOTES 92 « Pretty aromas of ripe berries and smoke with some cedar undertones. Medium body, chewy tannins and a medium finish. Give it a year or two to soften. » Silver Medal Paris 2016 88 Silver Medal Bruxelles 2016 « Vanilla aromas show the dominant wood character of this lean wine. It is firm in tannins rather than fruit, a tough proposition for the future. » 14,5-15,5 «Vanilla aromas show the dominant wood character of this lean wine. It is firm in tannins rather than fruit, a tough proposition for the future. » 15

CHÂTEAU FERRANDE GRAVES VINTAGE 2014 NOTES MEDALS Gold Medal 91 16,5+ Vinalis International « Rich and fruity, this wine is open and generous. It has poise with intense fruitiness and a tight tangy texture. The acidity and lemon zest flavors at the end give a real lift. » 16,5+ 15 « upple and fresh; simple, but with a lovely vibrant edge and no exaggerated flavours. » 16 « Appealingly complex nose. This wine is supple, charming, nicely structured and well-made. Excellent progress. »

CHÂTEAU FERRANDE GRAVES VINTAGE 2015 HARVEST DATES CLIMATE TO SERVE CLIMATE Relatively warm, fairly dry weather conditions brought about rapid, early flowering and fruit set. Hot, dry July weather caused the gradual onset of water stress. The grapes reached full maturity following a dry August and September with no excessively high temperatures. The weather remained fine for harvest. Temperatures were around average, and there was little rainfall. HARVEST DATES Semillon: 5th – 11th September Sauvignon Gris: 28th August – 6th September Sauvignon Blanc: 28th August – 6th September BLEND Sémillon: 40% Sauvignon gris: 30% Sauvignon blanc: 30% OUR EXPERT 8 - 10 °C 2 - 4 years 13% vol TASTING NOTES This is an outstanding Graves wine with an exceptionally fresh and fruity profile. Elegant citrus on the nose highlighting a vein of minerality - a feature of the Semillon and Sauvignon Gris grapes. The hint of ginger – one of the hallmarks of Château Ferrande – does not disappoint. The palate is notable for its crisp attack – a beautiful balance of softness and vibrancy. The fruity flavours develop enticing, subtle notes of kaffir lime and white pepper. Marc Maintenat Director
