Aylmerton Residential Visit 2018 Wednesday 16th May- Friday 18th May

Staff Taking Part Mr Ashley Targett (Trip manager) Approximately 6 members of Bushfield staff (depending on the number of children going). The majority of the staff will be from the year group. There will be at least one medically trained member of staff.

What is Aylmerton? Aylmerton is a Geography Field Study Centre. It is a family owned enterprise staffed by full time professionals who have a Geography or Natural History specialism. It is situated on the edge of the National Trust Estate at Felbrigg Hall in a Victorian school building.

Location All the activities take place within a relatively small geographic area. The centre is quite isolated which makes it a very safe environment.

Dormitories Dormitories are basic but comfortable with an en-suite shower and toilet. There are bunk beds in all rooms. A staff bedroom adjoins each room so the children can always contact a teacher should they need to.

Safety at the centre The Centre is on a very minor road away from any settlement. The staff room is equipped with cctv giving coverage of all entrances and other key areas. The boys and girls dormitories are separated by the staff room.

Safety when out and about All of the centre staff are full time employees who know the area very well. The instructors hold special certificates for outward bounds activities and have very detailed knowledge of the terrain. Children are provided with life jackets for the sea side activity.

Food Food is cooked on site in the centre kitchen. Children are involved in serving and clearing away, and mealtimes are used as an important social learning activity. The food is basic but good quality, and children are normally so hungry from the outdoor activities that they soon tuck in!

Timetable- Thursday Breakfast Lunch Dinner 8.00 – 8.45 9.30 – 10.45 Coach to Morston and ferry to Blakeney Point 10.45 – 12.30 Examine dune and shingle habitats and visit the seals 12.30 – 1.00 Lunch 1.00 – 4.15 Coach to Cromer – Lifeboat museum and sand sculptures 4.15 – 4.45 Coach back to Centre 5.15 – 7.00 Dinner 7.00 – 9.00 Campfire, stories and evening drink before bed.

Communications There are no pay phones at Aylmerton and children do not take mobile phones. Staff members will have mobile phones with them. Parents will be given an out of hours contact number should they need to get in touch with their child. There are no televisions at Aylmerton. The children’s time is filled so fully there would be no time for them to see it. Being away from TV is an essential part of the experience!!

Behaviour If there are any concerns about a child’s behaviour in school prior to the trip – there may be discussions between the school and the parents about the suitability of that child attending the trip. If a child’s behaviour is deemed unacceptable and ‘unsafe’ while on the trip, the school may well remove the child mid way through the residential.

Important information Where possible, a deposit of £30 needs to be given to the school office by Friday 22nd September If you want a space but may have difficulty with the deposit, please return a slip and speak to the office by Friday 22nd September Letters were sent out before the summer holiday via ParentMail. Please log in and respond if you haven’t yet done so.

Oversubscription There are 65 spaces available for the residential. In the event of the trip being over subscribed, all requests handed in by the deadline date will be chosen at random until the trip is full. Those handed in after the deadline date will be placed on a waiting list if the trip is full.

Other payment information The cost may change depending on numbers but it currently stands at £176. If this is different from the original cost you thought, it is likely to be a change in coach that has meant the cost is slightly lower. If you are unsure about anything to do with money, the office team will happily explain things or help.

Second information evening This will cover things like: timings, kit list, staff list, medical forms and contact details. The meeting will happen a few weeks before the residential so there is plenty of time to prepare. As we have gone paperless, all information will be available on the school website.

Website http://www.afsc.co.uk/ There is a great deal of information on the website about the fantastic experience the children will be getting. Please do take a look. Finally, if there are any concerns or queries, please speak to a member of staff this evening or to a member of the office team at a suitable time. Thank you.
