Jesus said, “remember me”. Created for My Communion Story Jesus said, “remember me”.

Why do we do it?

We who believe in Jesus take communion to remember Him.

To help us remember Him Jesus said His body was like the bread. The bread is a symbol of his body (like a picture, but better, since we can not only see it, but also smell it, hear it, touch it, taste it and feel it inside us when we eat it). The bread helps us remember Jesus.

To help us remember Him Jesus said the cup (with grape juice or wine) is the symbol of his blood. Like the bread it helps us remember all He gave to free us from sin.

When do we do it?

We can go to the communion table on our own at any worship service We can go to the communion table on our own at any worship service. The whole church does it together usually the first Sunday of each month.

How do we do it?

First The pastor prays over our communion and everyone at church today as we remember Jesus together.

Next We get out of our seats and go to the communion servers. We might have to wait in line to get the bread and juice when it is our turn.

They will hand us a piece of bread and let us have some juice. The server with bread will say something about “Jesus’ body for you” and the server with the cup will say something about “Jesus’ blood for you”.

Then We pray to thank God for sending Jesus, to remember Jesus, and to think about Him for a few minutes.

Then We eat the bread, dipped in the juice. If that’s yucky feeling, we could ask politely for the juice to be separate. We can do this either at the front, near the servers, or at our seats.

Last We sit quietly and wait for others to finish taking communion too. We can pray, and think about Jesus. Music to worship Jesus might be going, as a way to also remember Him. We can sing along quietly sometimes. When everyone is done, we go on to the next part of our worship service.
