A typical 9th grade student takes: 4 core courses : English, Math, History, and Science 3 other courses that will fulfill other graduation requirements : World Language, Music, Art, PE or Technology

Honors & Advanced Placement Classes You should consider registering for an Honors and/or Advanced Placement class if: You have a strong interest in the class. You are motivated to succeed. You have good grades in prerequisite classes. We want you to push yourself, but we want you to also have “balance”. Just because we offer 31 AP courses does not mean you must take them all. Find you interests and strengths and follow them. Chances are we have a sequence for you that will lead to a great AP experience! This year, as a part of our Course Bulletin, we have included a “Homework Approximation” section. This section is designed to help you plan your courses with a “weekly workload” average in mind.

After Deciding Course Selections…. Students will enter their choices online on the myMCPS Scheduler program

Registration for Rising 9th Graders Feeder middle school students should complete their paper registration card & enter courses online by January 19th. Tilden – turn in registration to your Counselor, Mr. Alessi NB – turn in registration to the Counseling Office or 4th period teacher

Magnet, private school, or moving into the area? Please contact WJ’s counseling secretary, Ms. Kivela, to set up a future enrollment appointment. Please access registration materials on the WJ counseling page to preview course selections. When you meet with your counselor, you will finalize your course selections. Everything can be found on the WJ website in the event that any materials are lost.

Registration for Current WJ students Rising 10th, 11th, & 12th Graders Registration materials will be distributed via Math classes on Monday, January 23rd. Students should complete their registration card and enter course selections online by the designated due date. Students will meet with their counselors via English classes in February to review course selections. Everything can be found on the WJ website in the event that any materials are lost.

Later in the Spring… Course Verification Sheets will be sent home to all students May 2017. Last date to make any changes to course requests is June 16, 2017. We recognize that choosing classes in January/February is early, so we build in some time before an absolute drop dead date for making final decisions for next year’s course selections.

Finally, please remember… Students (and parents/guardians!) talk with your teachers and counselor about your course choices. They know you and your options best! If you have any questions, ask your middle school counselor or email your WJ counselor.
