Chatham University Interprofessional Education 2017

What is an Interprofessional (IP) team? An interprofessional approach to health care, or IP for short, is the coordinated care of patients by a collaborative team of health care providers. It means consulting with dentists, pharmacists, nurses, or whoever has the necessary expertise to contribute to the patient’s treatment plan. http://today.uconn.edu/2014/03/interprofessional-health-care/

Who at Chatham? Students from Nursing, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physician Assistant, and Psychology Programs

Opening Event “Impact of environmental change on mental health & overall implications for patient care”  Marybeth Mannarino PhD Engage in the socialization process to build a community of learners with students in interprofessional health care programs. 10/4/17 5-7 pm AFC   (Focus on understanding a noteworthy health care issue, related to numberous disciplines, that impacts patient/clients across all health care arenas).

Fall Event Teams/Teamwork and Communication Objectives:   Analyze effective and ineffective communication techniques; demonstrate effective communication strategies. Identify key members of the IP team; recognize the importance of consensus building for Team Based Care delivery in collaborative practice to improve patient/family outcomes. Conclude effective communications have opportunity to decrease health care errors.

Fall event dates Wednesday, November 1st 3:30-6:30 pm (Mellon Board Room) Saturday, November 4th 9-12:00 pm Chatham Circle (Eastside Campus) Saturday, November 11th 9-12:00 pm (Mellon Board Room) NOTE – student to select one session to attend as respective discipline slots available

Spring Event Roles and Responsibilities and Values and Ethics Objectives:   Discuss the role and responsibilities of the physical therapist, occupational therapist, physician’s assistant, nurse and counseling psychologist, both as a separate profession as well as within an interprofessional team.  Identify and discuss the standards and congruency of values of ethical conduct for various members of an interprofessional healthcare team. NOTE: these sessions will be schedule later in fall, 2017 for early in 2018 calendar year. Student will attend one 2 hour session. Saturday,
