TRADITIONAL FOAM SYSTEMS REQUIRE: 1. A dependable water supply; 2. A dependable power supply; 3. A reliable pump; 4. A good supply of quality foam concentrate; 5. A reliable proportioning system; 6. A good aerating nozzle or application device; 7. A skilled pump operator who can make it all work together, and a trained fire brigade.
Conventional large tank firefighting
Self-expanding foam system (sef) Requires no firewater supply or power source. Pre-mix solution is stored in a pressurized vessel (typically at 250 psi). Only requires opening a single valve for operation (manual or automatic w/detection). Good for Class a, b, and k fires – alcohol resistant afff can be used for class b applications. Expansion ration of approximately 10:1. ten-year shelf life; limited maintenance of system. Maximum extinguishing time of two minutes for any size storage tank. Can be used for tank farms, power stations, mines, fire response vehicles, etc. Can be set up with a manifold system for several tanks. Can be mounted on a trailer and moved to site of a tank fire.
