Year 4 Information Evening September 2015

Overview of topics Autumn 1: Rumbles and Eruptions! Autumn 2: Seekers and Settlers. Spring 1: We live here! Spring 2: Sounds Great! Summer 1: Fantastic Fiction. Summer 2: Time Traveller.

Autumn 1 Rumbles and Eruptions Science: Teeth and the Digestive system Geography: Volcanoes and earthquakes. English: Recounts, Adventure stories, Poetry. Mathematics: Place value, four operations, fractions shape. ICT We are software developers.

Autumn 2 Seekers and Settlers. History: Anglo Saxons and Vikings Science: States of Matter RE: Old Testament Stories English: Stories by the same author, Non Chronological reports, Myths and Legends, Poetry. Mathematics: Place value, four operations and shape and space. ICT. We are toy designers.

Spring 1 We live here! Science: Investigating and applying skills. Geography. Land use and human geography. English: Instructions and explanations, fairy stories and play scripts, Shape poems. Mathematics: place value, four operations, shape and space.

Spring 2 Sounds Great! English- Stories about times passed, Chronological report, poetry by heart. Mathematics- four operations, place value, shape and space. Improvised drumming workshop. ICT – producing digital music. Science- sound.

Summer 1 Fantastic Fiction! Science: Living things and their habitats. English: Persuasive letter writing, plays and dialogues, poetry. Geography- maps and compass directions. ICT- We are meteorologists. Mathematics- Four operations, shape and space, place value.

Summer 2 Time Traveller History: Local history study. Science- electricity. English:Stories from other cultures, plays and dialogues, poetry. Mathematics: Place value, four operations, shape and space, data . ICT- We are co-authors. Creating a web page.

PE Thursday afternoons this term all afternoon and swimming for ten weeks on a Tuesday. Games and Gymnastics led by Sports Specialists Medication in school PE Kit warm clothes to put on over indoor kits. No jewellery on Thursday please.

Get involved! Enterprise Week . Year 3 & 4 production Christmas 2015 Year 4 assembly – date to be decided .

Productions Our Year 3 and 4 production will be at the end of the Autumn Term. We will give you more details nearer the time – we are all looking forward to it!!

Reading Shared reading (lots of discussion and prediction) Guided reading every week (teaching reading skills in differentiated groups so that the work match is appropriate) Individual reading as often as possible (to assess the child’s level and change levels if necessary). When a child can decode, still lots of discussion needed at school and at home to develop comprehension skills. Reading at home to practice all the skills your child has been learning in school Change book as necessary when child has read at home.

Writing Cursive script Guided writing VCOP SPAG Spelling Punctuation & Grammar Writing journals help the children to concentrate on good quality writing across the curriculum.

Homework Read and read and read……….. Homework is given out every Friday and is collected in the following Wednesday. The children will have a selection of homework each week plus spellings.
