Major Challenges: Insecurity. Triggering in Ramazan Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Afghanistan Conference on Sanitation 2016 Major Challenges: Insecurity. Triggering in Ramazan Less participation of community in hot summer season/Cultivation season. Availability of female qualified staff. Less motivation to construct new latrines among poor families. Non responsive community take much time Adopting new techniques from other countries

Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Afghanistan Conference on Sanitation 2016 Key lesson learnt: Well coordination with local beneficiaries is crucial. Training should be according to field situation, culture and level of awareness. Reorganization and selection of motivate natural leader is vital. Appreciate the beneficiaries who already have hygienic latrines. Trained and coach field staff to apply different techniques and tools to motivate targeted people. Hiring of qualified field staff is also essential.

Way Forward Increase coordination with all stake holders Capacity building of DACAAR CLTS facilitator/CLTS committees(M and F) Recognition and proper selection of strong and active natural leaders

Way Forward… Remote monitoring system Exchange visit of CLTS natural leader/DACAAR staff from other CLTS IP Contributing to scaling up sanitation towards contributing to ODF Afghanistan by 2025
