Notes. Gene Symbols 1.All organisms have least two genes for every trait. 2.They receive at least one from each parent. _Symbols_ are used to help predicting.

Sexual Reproduction

Benefits of Sexual Reproduction?

How could this lead to Evolution?

Genetic Dominance Every organism who reproduces sexually receives genetic material from both partners. In order to demonstrate a dominant trait, an organism only requires 1 dominant allele (part of a gene) In order to demonstrate a recessive trait, an organism must have 2 recessive alleles

Homozygous = 2 of the same types of alleles (dominant or recessive) Heterozygous = 2 different alleles (1 dominant 1 recessive) Choose any letter to represent the same allele, then use CAPITAL or lower case to determine dominance

Punnett Squares Simple graphical and mathematical analysis of the potential genetic combinations that could occur in offspring Dominant alleles are represented with CAPITAL LETTERS Recessive alleles are represented with lower case letters For science 20 we will put the mother across the top and the dad vertically along the side of the punnett square

Example Determine the % probability that a mother with blue eyes and a father with heterozygous brown eyes have a blue eyed child
