How is the Caldecott Award Chosen? Must be published in English in the United States Must be a citizen or resident of the United States. Must be published the previous year. Chosen by a committee

The History Started in 1937 by Frederic G. Melcher. Named in honor of nineteenth-century English illustrator Randolph J. Caldecott. The first winner was Animals of the Bible, A Picture Book , illustrated by Dorothy P. Lathrop in 1938.
