Grading POLICY Progress reports are sent home every 4-5 weeks. Report cards go home every nine weeks. School wide conferences will be held after first report card. Grades can be accessed via Skyward: www.lake.k12.fl.us/familyaccess

Homework POLICY Students will only have homework if classwork is not finished. *We do want students to read at least 20 minutes a night.

Attendance POLICY Attendance is VERY important and one of our WIGS this year. #showup #attendancematters

Reading/Language ARTS Reading: key ideas and details; craft and structure; integration of knowledge and ideas; range of reading and level of text complexity; phonics and word recognition; and fluency. Writing: text types and purposes; production and distribution of writing; research to build and present knowledge; and range of writing. Speaking and listening: comprehension and collaboration; and presentation of knowledge and ideas. Grammar: conventions of standard English; knowledge of language; vocabulary acquisition and use.

**Please practice Multiplication facts at home! MATHEMATICS We will be learning all of the 5th Grade Florida State Math Standards. Our goal is to deepen our thinking and find the most efficient ways to solve problems. **Please practice Multiplication facts at home!

SCIENCE We will be learning 3rd-5th Grade Science Standards to prepare for the Science FSA. It will be important for students to learn how to apply their science knowledge to new situations.

Social STUDIES We will be focusing on the 5th grade social studies standards. We will be covering maps, and geography as well as Pre-columbian North America through growth and westward expansion.

We will have 2 field trips this year. 1- Jim Sawgrass 2- Sea World Students with more than 3 referrals will not be permitted to go on the field trip.

Parent VOLUNTEERS We would love to have you! 1st- Get approved 2nd- Let us know when you can help! If any parents/guardians would like to be a chaperone any field trips/school activities those individuals must submit a background check form and have their fingerprints taken no later than mid-September. If volunteers fail to complete these county requirements by the stated deadline, they will not be able to participate as a volunteer in school activities. Testing FCAT Testing – students will be assessed only in Science for FCAT this year. FSA Testing – ELA and Math will be computer based tests this year. Writing will be paper based.

This year, we’re using ClassDojo to build our classroom community We’ll build a positive culture where students are engaged, encouraged, and love learning! All parents are part of our classroom community, seeing what we’re learning every day.
