Presentation transcript:

Technology, Health Care and Research Our five priority areas of collaboration are: Mental Health Policy and Implementation Mental health systems, PHC training using the Family Medicine branches, health and non-health professionals training, nursing and mental health (using e-nursing programs), community –based approaches Mental health in the workplace, including psychosocial rehabilitation, research collaboration Indigenous and mental health Research capacity building on mental health (mental health research ethics, and mental health ethics, and equity and mental health) Surveillance and monitoring of Mental Health burden and interventions

Technology, Health Care and Research (2) Our principle challenges are: Concern over who the PAHO contact persons are Who initiates the contact with the countries? Language barriers (could try to attract Spanish speakers) Knowing what other Collaborating Centres are doing – PAHO could serve as a coordinator using the focal points in the countries Matching existing expertise and capacity with emerging needs (Suicide, alcohol and traffic accidents) Funding – Will it be available for specific priorities? How to access TCC?

Technology, Health Care and Research (3) Within these five areas of collaboration, there are the following identifiable projects/activities that can be undertaken in 2010-2011: PAHO can facilitate a meeting on mental health with mental health groups to specify priority areas and gaps around the regional plan. CC can come together as a group with priority actions and work together synergistically as a collaboration among the collaboration centres. Ethics also cuts across all areas. Could Health Canada with PAHO facilitate an annual meeting of CCs. Create a database that maps out expertise, current and past projects, and collaborators.
